Law School

If you want to go to law school, don't.  It's too much goddamn work.  I have a sink full of dishes and a headache over the CSC briefs I need to get done.  I wanna croak!

What is a Veteran Good For? Auntie Mariah says...

Free dinner!

Apparently, Ponderosa has decided to thank the men and women of the armed services, by giving them free wing ding things and a diet pepsis, between 4-8 pm, today.  Natch, Lee and I were all over that.  He, because he is a veteran, and me, because I am going to get free food.

But Mariah, you are no doubt wondering, you have sat on your spoiled sheltered white girl ass all of your life.  You think an M-16 is British poilce force.  How did you get a free dinner?

Well, kids, my boyfriend is a vet and he buys me things, just like I told the girl at the counter who undoubtedly thought I was a ho.  Well, bitch, let me tell you something.  I work very hard for the free food I recieve.  I actually pretend to like this man, and sometimes I allow him to put his hands on me.  But only in designated zones.  I may be cheap, but I'm not easy.

So, we had a pleasant meal, Lee's was free and so was mine, as he paid for it.  Then we went to Meijer where it turns out, Rimmel was 50% off.  I bought a face primer and a new mascara.  Then, at Target, I bought the cats a houndstooth coat.  Oh, there will be pictures.

And speaking of pictures, my new ELF order arrived today.  Yes, I can hear your laughter about my obsession with looking good for a few dimes.  But I digress.  The order contained, one mineral lipstick in royal red (the better to seduce you with), four liqud eyeliner pens, two in midnight blue and two in plum, four mineral eyeshadows in Celebrity, Temptress, Girly and Royal, three shimmering facial whips in Camilla, Persimmon, and Toasted (mostly to use as eye shadow primer or to highlight my brow bone), and three new studio tools, an eye primer and line sealer, which creates liqud eye liner out of powder shadow, a lip plumper and primer, which doesn;t work well, and a blush and bronzer compact that is huge.  I also recieved a free gift, because I gave out the email addresses of three people who probably wish I hadn;t.  The gift was a candy shop lip tin in Coconut Crazed.  If anyone wants it, let me know.

Oh, I am a happy, happy girl.  I wore my new red lipstick out, and I have to say, I liked it.

A lot.

Expect me to pretend I am forties star.

And look out for the pictures.  I have some of the cats dressed as elves and penguins.

Archives.

As katie pointed out, mySpace doesn't archive blog entries and since I like to save things, I am going to post on both myspace and here, to save things.  Please read them.

Cooley Law School Tour and Shopping
Current mood: mellow
Category: Fashion, Style, Shopping

I took my tour of Thomas M Cooley yesterday, or as I am beginging to understand it, the place where I give all of my money to for the next three years.   My tour started at two o'clock, and it was just me and my mother.  I am so glad that she went with me, because it would have been really lonely with just me and the Idaho kid who showed me around the building.  The elevators moved very jerkily and I broke a brittle nail on the fucking rail in the back of the cage because it scared me.

We saw the bookstore, the library, and a bunch of sad looking students, some of whom were wearing sweatpants.  This made me feel good because as I have got rather fatter of late, I am not fitting into my size ten jeans anymore.  I am hoping to cure this with an increased level of visits to the gym, but somedays I can't find the time to go.   I also eat too much.

Anyway  I received some cool swag, and after the tour, I went to the financial aid office where a nice man answered all of my questions and told me, but didn;t tell who to get my loans from.  He also told me I shouldn't pay on them for the one month I won't be in school, I should go into something called forbearance.  I don;t know what that is, but I messaged my cousin who works at CMU and I hope she can tell me what to do.  I am going to be a lawyer, not a banker!  Maybe a lawyer, definetly not a banker.

I am going to law school.  I woke up and realized it this morning.  In about two months, I will be one of those students carrying around sixteen pounds of books and praying that I win the lotto so I don't have to come to school anymore, but probably still would.  I can't wait.

Of course, the poverty is an issue.

I went shopping last night because I needed a few things, like a winter hat, my ears are getting cold, and baby wipes for the cats' butts.  I wanted a super red rich lip color, but I could't find one.  I also wanted an eye primer, but couldn't find one.  But when I got back to Lee's and logged onto the internets while studying for my December LSAT, I found that ELF is now selling a "studio" line, of professional products, like primers.  I think some of the products are based on Avon's, but as usual, they will be good, and that it what I love about ELF.  There is really good value with them.

I spent about $33 after shipping, but because I ordered mineral products, I got 50% off of each one I ordered, so basically my shipping was free.  I also got a free subscription to Glamour Magazine, to add to my Vogue, Marie Claire, and W subscriptions.  I actually wanted the subscription to Islands magainze because I thought the pictures would be pretty, but you don't have a choice.  I wish I wasn't the only person I know who is obsessed with ELF.  I've had so few problems with their products, almost everything has turned out to be good, with the exception of their moistureizng foundation which was really dry.  But it's only a dollar, so if you don't like it and toss it, you didn't lose much.

I am afraid that they are going to start trying to get more expensive and I won't be able to get my eyeliner pens and plumping glaze and liqud lipstick for a dollar anymore though.  That would seriously suck bad.  I would hate ELF them.  Hate and scorn them.  I am going to law school and I will need to have their cheap, sweet, goodness.  I need that shimmering facial whip for my brow bone!  I need that goddam all over color stick for an eye primer!  I need that baby lips all the time!  Are you listening ELF?  Don't forget your base.  Stay cheap, honey!

So, I paid my seat deposit for Thomas M Cooley, on Saturday.  I am really going.  I am going to go to law school and learn, hopefully more about the law and less about how to make ramen last for weeks.  I'm half excited, I've been buying cookbooks and going through them for recipes i plan to cook on the weekends, and i half scared about leaving my family and friends.

On saturday we went to the Book Burrow.  I picked up a small stack of books, most of them dealing with the "american teenager."  I like reading about adolscent girls and their troubles, which seem far removed from the problems I have.

In other news, my loser ex has joined the national guard, and I miss being single.

Lawyerin' School

So, one of my high school classmates is in law school already, in another state.  I looked the school up and it looked expensive and nothing in it really hit me the way the Public defender, innocence project and Domestic violence clinics offered at Cooley did.  So what's the appeal of that place?  I suppose I'm cranky because she probably got better financial aid than I did.  Well, whatever, I'll probably get a 50% scholarship, and that's not bad.
